Russia Criticizes Danish Nord Stream Probe

Russia’s presidential spokesman, Dmitrij Peskov, criticized the suspension of the Danish investigation into the Nord Stream pipeline explosions as ‘close to absurd’. The Danish authorities halted the joint investigation by Copenhagen Police and the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET), citing a lack of basis for pursuing a criminal case, despite recognizing the deliberate sabotage of the pipelines. According to the russian spokesman Russia has been denied information about the investigation multiple times. The Russian ambassador to Denmark, Vladimir Barbin, accused the Danish investigation of lacking objectivity and interest in identifying the individuals responsible. On the early hours of September 26, 2022, explosions were detected at Nord Stream 2 and later at Nord Stream 1 near Bornholm, causing large holes and gas leaks. Following the incidents, multiple countries have conducted investigations. On February 7, Swedish authorities also suspended their investigation, with the Swedish Prosecution Authority concluding it couldn’t solve the case.
