Carlsberg nears sale of Russian unit

Carlsberg is reportedly approaching an unexpected gain from the sale of its Russian subsidiary, Baltika Breweries. The Russian business outlet Vedomosti has disclosed that Carlsberg agreed to a deal with a Russian investor group, confirmed by three anonymous sources. The Russian government has already approved the deal, expected to be finalized before the new year. This news follows the Russian government’s surprise removal of Baltika Breweries from its list of Western assets controlled by the state, despite the company being transferred to state ownership by President Putin’s decree in July, following Carlsberg’s announcement of a potential buyer in June.
