Wammen undecided on state attorney future
Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen hasn’t decided on the future of Denmark’s kammeradvokat arrangement following a recommendation to abolish the title. The current contract with law firm Poul Schmith remains in place. The expert group advised increased competition by diversifying the state’s legal counsel providers and suggested a gradual implementation. Moreover, they proposed establishing a government attorney to enhance in-house legal competencies. No other similar national arrangement was found in comparable countries. Though state institutions are content, reliance on one supplier is seen as disadvantageous. Poul Schmith, the current kammeradvokat, opposes the recommendations, fearing potential inadequacies in fulfilling legal needs. The government spends significantly on legal services, with costs more than doubling since 2011.
