Denmark OK’s new North Sea oil-gas output

Ineos has received approval from the Danish Energy Agency to initiate oil and gas production from the Hejre field in the North Sea. The project kicks off in 2025 with production by 2027, contributing about 7% to Denmark’s total output and lasting until 2045. Greenpeace criticizes the decision, highlighting Denmark’s commitment to combating climate change and its role in the Beyond Oil and Gas alliance. The permission, originally granted in 1998 but delayed and previously shelved, is now contested due to the urgency of climate issues. Climate Minister Lars Aagaard refrains from commenting on the approval, earlier suggesting such projects could reduce dependence on Russian energy sources.
