Argentina

An Argentinian court on Wednesday suspended amendments to the country’s employment laws that were part of President Javier Milei’s economic reforms. Argentina’s largest trade union has criticised the changes for undermining core labour standards. This includes the right to strike and to take maternity leave. The ruling was handed down by an appeals court who have put a temporary stop to the changes in the law. The changes would, among other things, mean that new employees’ probationary period at a new workplace will be extended from three to eight months and that future parents will have shorter maternity leave. /ritzau/AFP/
