Attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq
Rockets have hit a military base carrying US soldiers near Baghdad’s international airport, Iraqi police said Thursday. According to the Iraqi police, at least two Katyusha rockets have struck near a building housing US forces. It was not immediately clear whether the rocket attack caused any deaths, Iraqi police said. On Thursday evening, another military base with American and other international soldiers was attacked with drones and rockets. Here the attack targeted the air base Ain Al-Asad in western Iraq. The Iraqi military then cordoned off the area and began a search. It is still unclear whether the attack caused deaths or injuries. Also on Wednesday, US forces were subjected to two separate drone attacks. Here, one caused minor injuries to a small number of soldiers, although the US military managed to intercept the drone. Armed groups from Iraq aligned with Iran have threatened to attack targets of U.S. interest with missiles and drones if the U.S. government intervened to support Israel’s fight against Hamas in Gaza, according to Reuters. /ritzau/Reuters/
