Thousands of youths tried opioids last year

A survey by the Danish Health Authority involving 1,000 individuals aged 18-25 revealed that 2.7% have tried dangerous substances like opioids, with 1.4% having used them in the past year, equating to approximately 7,300 Danish youths. The Authority’s unit chief Niels Sandø expressed concern about the rising availability of these drugs in kiosks and online, which could lead to changes in the current situation. An evaluation in April emphasized the ‘very high’ danger of opioids due to addiction risks and a narrow margin between intoxication and lethal doses. Observations suggest an increasing trend of opioid misuse among Danish youth, with incidents reported across various municipalities. The Health Authority advises communities to respond swiftly using familiar intervention methods to support the youth.
