Swedish police chief eesponds to Danish criticism

Swedish Police Chief Håkan Wall has responded to criticism from Danish politicians regarding the involvement of Swedes in crimes in Denmark. Wall acknowledges that Swedish gangs have a high propensity for violence which has impacted neighboring countries, but he argues that Sweden is not solely responsible for all criminal activity in Denmark or Norway. Danish Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard recently announced heightened control at the Danish-Swedish border following incidents of Swedish youths being detained for crimes in Denmark. He also criticized Swedish legal policy, asserting Sweden has a significant responsibility to resolve issues within its own society. Despite criticisms, Wall emphasizes the importance of Nordic police cooperation and points out that the real issue lies with those orchestrating the crimes. He also supports Denmark’s plans to imprison young offenders under 18, noting the severity of crimes involving children and firearms.
