Michael Ziegler appointed as interim Conservative leader

Following the death of Søren Pape Poulsen, Michael Ziegler has become the interim chair of the Conservative Party, although not the acting political leader. Ziegler, the party’s deputy chair and Høje-Taastrup municipality’s mayor, confirmed this to Ritzau. Pape, who died at 52 due to a brain hemorrhage, had served as the Conservative’s frontman since 2014. The process for choosing a permanent chair is still uncertain, and could involve an extraordinary council meeting where a new chair is elected or the election of a new political leader at a regular council. Ziegler mourns Pape’s unexpected death as ‘sad and meaningless’ on social media, highlighting his warmth, joyfulness, and kindness. Pape suffered the hemorrhage during a party executive committee meeting and passed away despite being rushed to the hospital.
