Lars Aagaard can continue as minister after close vote

A majority in the Danish Parliament has expressed confidence in Climate, Energy, and Supply Minister Lars Aagaard after a no-confidence vote. The vote concluded with 86 supporting his continuation, 85 favoring his resignation, and 1 abstention. The no-confidence motion emerged from Aagaard’s withholding of information regarding delays in the electricity grid. Despite the opposition’s lack of trust, a speech by Moderates’ group leader Henrik Frandsen reassured support. The North Atlantic mandates and independent vote helped secure Aagaard’s position. Historically, such no-confidence votes are rare; the last occurred in 2006. Though present, Aagaard could not vote as he is not a parliament member. Before joining the government post-2022 election, he was the managing director of Dansk Energi.
