Danish politician arrested in Turkey

Former Danish parliament member from the Green Left (SF), Halime Oguz, was arrested in Turkey on Thursday for alleged terrorism propaganda. Oguz, who was born in Turkey but grew up in Odense, Denmark, was detained by three armed soldiers and taken for questioning. The arrest was based on a complaint from a Danish man with Turkish roots whom Oguz is friends with on Facebook. The politician asserts she rarely involves herself in Turkish matters, focusing on Danish interests. She experienced the arrest near Kulu in Turkey’s Konya province while visiting family. Oguz was held for a few hours before the charges were dropped and she was released, with authorities recognizing the absurdity of the situation. She plans to sue the accuser for defamation. Oguz served in the Danish Folketing from 2019 to 2022 and was a spokesperson for integration.
