Skagen painting worth millions up for auction

A Skagen painting by P.S. Krøyer, valued at several million kroner, is set to go to auction on December 2nd, according to Bruun Rasmussen auction house. The painting titled ‘Mrs. Marie Krøyer in the Garden at Skagen,’ was created in 1892 after Krøyer and his wife Marie spent their summer in Skagen following their honeymoon in Italy. Bruun Rasmussen describes the period of the painting as a very happy time in their lives, filled with love and flourishing art. Although this painting reflects a happier moment, Krøyer’s manic depression later left its mark on his work, especially in his later years. The painting up for auction is part of a series of garden motifs featuring Marie Krøyer and is one of the less known compared to ‘Roser’ from 1893.
