Maersk container recovery ends
Maersk has ended the recovery efforts for 46 containers that fell from a ship in Jammer Bay due to a severe storm before Christmas. Recovery operations, which began in late May, resulted in salvaging parts equivalent to 17 whole containers and 44,400 kilos of plastic and rubber. The containers, nearly all broken, were found fragmented on the seabed. The Mayview Maersk lost these containers 30 km from Hanstholm on December 22. While five containers arrived onshore, 21 were located underwater, and 20 remain unfound. Maersk admits that complete recovery was impossible and will handle any future debris or navigational risks.
