DF seeks more autonomy for defense chief

The Danish People’s Party advocate for a restructured leadership within the Danish Defense, led by Alex Ahrendtsen, who suggests the current issues stem from an inability to appropriately assign blame due to the structure. Ahrendtsen proposes empowering the Defense Chief with broader responsibilities, reverting from the 2014 reorganization that distributed responsibilities across different agencies. This call for change follows a recent frigate case meeting highlighting the lack of clear accountability. Ahrendtsen criticizes the current political influence over military communication due to its integration with the Ministry’s department. The government has yet to review the Defense organization as promised in its platform. After statements from acting Defense Minister Poulsen Chief of Defense Flemming Lentfer was dismissed over trust issues and replaced by interim Chief Michael Hyldgaard.
