NATO considers more nuclear readiness

NATO countries are contemplating making additional nuclear weapons ready for use, as disclosed by Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with The Telegraph, due to rising threats from China and Russia. Stoltenberg emphasizes the need for discussion on operational details without diving into specifics, while acknowledging that transparency communicates NATO’s nuclear capability. Moreover, his statement reinforces NATO’s deterrent role through its nuclear arsenal, as previously asserted. Russian spokesperson Dmitrij Peskov views these remarks as a further escalation of tensions, whereas SVR Director Sergej Narysjkin downplays their significance. Russian President Vladimir Putin has mentioned the conditional possibility of using nuclear weapons to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity but doesn’t see an immediate need for such actions.
