Denmark seeks more African students
The Danish government aims to attract more African students to its universities and higher education institutions as a key element of its Africa strategy, set to be revealed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the end of August, according to Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen. This initiative is not about altruism, but about safeguarding Denmark’s sharp interests, as both Europe’s population and economic influence shrink. Last year, a majority in the Danish Parliament agreed to increase the number of English-language study places. Rasmussen suggests further increases, highlighting the competition with China, which is rapidly expanding its influence in Africa. The strategy will also include higher contributions to investment funds assisting Danish businesses in establishing themselves in Africa.
