Settlements for leg amputation cases concluded
Patienterstatningen has resolved all compensation cases regarding leg amputations in the Central Denmark Region, director Karen Inger Bast informs DR. Investigations revealed that timely vascular surgery could have prevented several amputations and deaths. Families of deceased patients received compensation. The issue came to light in 2022, leading to guidance for affected patients to seek compensation. It was concluded that five patients died due to delayed treatment in the region. The region is reviewing 65 cases where compensation was granted and has invested around 20 million kroner to improve vascular surgery. Following the review in the Central Denmark Region, both Zealand and Southern Denmark Regions have started examining similar cases, with findings indicating potential preventable amputations with proper timely treatment.
