Focus on child abuse: Government and charity team Up
A collaboration between the Danish government and the organization Børns Vilkår aims to unveil the extent of violence against children, as stated by the Justice Ministry. Starting from next year, the extent of this issue will be surveyed every third year. Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard emphasizes the need for a greater understanding of the problem to intervene effectively. Rasmus Kjeldahl, director of Børns Vilkår, believes these studies are crucial for combatting child violence more effectively. Kjeldahl suggests a comprehensive plan towards zero tolerance for domestic child violence, including public awareness and proactive measures to detect and stop the violence. A previous study by Børns Vilkår revealed that over 20% of eighth graders had experienced physical violence at home. Kjeldahl interprets the new partnership as a hopeful sign of governmental action and the start of more concrete measures, highlighting the severe impact of domestic violence on children’s well-being.
