Changing rules for company car registration

Denmark’s Tax Minister, Jeppe Bruus, has decided to revise a regulation that required employers to register all employees with access to a company car for more than 30 days, he tells Avisen Denmark in an email. The current rule, effective from July 1, also implies that registered car users could be responsible for certain taxes, such as ownership tax. The specifics of how the regulation will be changed remain unclear, but the decision to amend comes after criticism from the business community, particularly SMEs in Denmark, who viewed the initial requirement as an unnecessary administrative burden. These changes were initially announced on June 28 by the Danish Motor Authority. The goal of the regulation was to improve control over vehicle users in Denmark and combat reckless driving, car leasing fraud, and tax evasion.
