King Frederik unveils memorial in Greenland
During the royal Danish couple’s visit to Greenland, King Frederik unveiled a memorial on Monday in the small island of Attu, situated in Qeqertalik municipality on Greenland’s west coast. The king and queen were shown around the community, including visits to the local church, school, and kindergarten, accompanied by Mayor Ane Hansen and municipal council members. The unveiling marked Attu’s bicentennial celebration. The day’s events concluded with a ‘kaffemik,’ a traditional Greenlandic gathering involving coffee drinking, pastry consumption, choral singing, and performances of Arctic sports. Additionally, the royal couple received gifts: King Frederik was presented with a locally carved walrus head, while Queen Mary received a locally knitted neck gaiter made of muskox yarn.
