Today’s news / First mink Farmer awarded fast track compensation
The first mink farmer has received compensation, says Food Minister Jacob Jensen (V): "When you get an offer, you can take all the time you want to assess whether it is at an acceptable level and close to what you had expected. You can then say no if you want. In this case, yes was said, and then the money is paid out relatively few days later", says Jacob Jensen to Landbrugsavisen. First mink Farmer awarded fast track compensation

A mink farmer has received compensation through the ‘fast track’ scheme opened for applications last October, as per Food Minister Jacob Jensen. The process allows mink farmers unlimited time to consider the offer and accept compensation, which is then paid out within a few days. The exact compensation amount has not been disclosed. Initially, the government expected most cases managed under the scheme to conclude by mid-2024. The ‘fast track’ option, a May 2023 political consensus, accelerates compensation that was earlier agreed in 2021 to be paid by the end of 2027. Choosing the fast track results in payments based on standardized rates, while opting for individual case processing could delay compensation until 2027, seven years after the mink cull. Around 40 applications are in process, with approximately 1200 mink farmers eligible for compensation. The current deadline for applications is April 1, which may be extended.
