Defense Minister calm amid Elbit legal dispute
Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen is undisturbed by Nexter Systems’ lawsuit against Denmark regarding the purchase of Israeli artillery worth DKK 1.74 billion, viewing it as a normal process to be resolved in court. Nexter Systems alleges Denmark violated EU rules of equal treatment and transparency in the Elbit case, where Israel’s Elbit Systems was awarded a billion kroner contract for 19 artillery systems and eight rocket launchers in January 2023, despite the absence of a bid from Nexter. Only Elbit Systems and South Korea’s Hanwha Systems had been contacted by the Defense Materiel and Procurement Agency (FMI). In response, Poulsen points towards an independent investigation into the procurement process scheduled to conclude in spring 2024. The lawsuit, initiated at the Glostrup court, is expected to take several years.
