Trump to be sentenced soon in hush money case
President-elect Donald Trump’s attempt to postpone sentencing in the ‘hush money’ case was rejected. The sentencing will proceed on January 10. Trump, who paid $130,000 to Stormy Daniels to silence allegations of an affair, was convicted last May. The payment was illicitly documented as a campaign expense. Trump’s team argued presidential immunity, which was invalidated by the court, as the incident predated his presidency. His lawyers, intending to appeal the dismissal of the case, requested a sentencing delay, which was denied. Judge Juan Merchan tends against jail time, favoring unconditional release, which means recognizing the crime but forgoing punishment. The sentencing comes ten days before Trump’s inauguration as the 47th U.S. President.
