Denmark donates 40 million DKK to Ukraine’s energy
Denmark is donating 40 million Danish kroner to support the reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy sector, which has been heavily targeted by Russian attacks, particularly with extensive missile strikes in March. Danish Climate, Energy, and Utilities Minister, Lars Aagaard, currently in Kyiv, acknowledges the severe challenges faced by Ukraine after the March 22 attacks on its energy infrastructure. The funds will go to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, to which Denmark has already contributed a total of 120 million kroner. Ukraine has the discretion to use the funds to rebuild their energy systems, with immediate priorities being the restoration of electricity and heating before the next winter. The Russian attacks significantly impact civilians, especially in winter without heat and power. Denmark also aims to help Ukraine increase its capacity for renewable energy and biogas in the long term, starting with a new biogas cooperation, noting Ukraine’s potential in these areas due to a large agricultural sector.
