Visitor Numbers Double at Christiansborg Palace

The Christansborg Slot experienced a twofold increase in visitors this winter holiday compared to last year, with a total of 45,000 visitors during the week. Mads Damsbo, the palace’s director, attributes the surge to the recent change of throne sparking interest in the palace’s history. The majority of guests, especially Danish nationals, have been keen to see the Throne Room with its historic chairs, used during the absolute monarchy from 1660 to 1848 and saved from a fire in 1884. Embellished with golden lions and griffins, these pieces reflect Denmark’s royal heritage. Damsbo expects the activities surrounding the new royal couple to maintain high interest for the foreseeable future, as the palace is the royal family’s representative venue for significant events. In the previous year, 650,000 people visited Christiansborg Palace, which is an important site of the National Museum.
