Higher gymnasium entry requirements set

The Danish government, SF, and DF agreed to tighten gymnasium admissions, raising the required average grade from 5 to 6. The new educational structure presented late Tuesday cancels the 10th class but permits a 10th school year at boarding schools, whose exams no longer boost averages. There will be three gymnasiums: general (stx), commercial (hhx), and a new vocational epx, starting in 2030, with an earlier start option. Epx requires passing comprehensive school; stx and hhx now require a 6 average or a more challenging entrance exam. Future plans for the technical gymnasium (htx) involve potential integration with stx or preserving successful programs, to be evaluated by experts. Critics from several parties called the government’s reform too complex and harmful, but their concerns did not alter the final agreement led by Minister Mattias Tesfaye.
