In recent months, the police have several times cleared Pusher Street in Christiania as part of a so-called comprehensive plan, which among other things aims to shut down the hash trade in Christiania. Government finds funds for Pusher Street closure
The Danish government plans to allocate 14.3 million DKK for an initial phase to transform Pusher Street in Christiania, contingent on funds from Copenhagen Municipality and the Christiania Foundation. Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard emphasized the necessity of physical changes for a successful permanent closure of the street. Elder Affairs Minister Mette Kierkgaard expects cooperative financing from Christiania and the Municipality. Copenhagen has already set aside 2 million DKK for project planning, with Mayor Sophie Hæstorp Andersen calling the government’s contribution ‘a huge gift to Copenhagen’ and looking forward to matching funds to commence the project aimed at redeveloping and permanently closing Pusher Street.
