New acting defense chief appoints army head

The newly appointed acting defense chief, Michael Hyldgaard, has named Major General Peter Harling Boysen as the new chief of the Army, effective May 1. This was announced by the Danish Defense in a press release. Boysen, aged 61, is taking over the position from Major General Gunner Arpe Nielsen who stepped down on April 1. Nielsen, who was appointed in 2021, is now the vice chief of the Development and Planning Staff. Boysen’s military career began in 1983, and includes deployments to the Middle East, Cyprus, Afghanistan, and the former Yugoslavia. He holds a master’s degree from King’s College London and has completed a British general staff course. Hyldgaard praises Boysen as the right individual to handle the significant tasks of driving development and maintaining combat readiness. Boysen expresses his gratitude for being chosen to lead the army.
