Senior Hamas Leader Killed in Israeli Strike

Marwan Issa, Hamas’ third in command, was confirmed killed by an Israeli airstrike in Gaza, per the White House and AFP. The strike targeted the Nusseirat camp where Issa, known as ‘Shadow Man’ for his evasiveness, was believed to be. He served as deputy chief of Hamas’s armed wing and according to the military of Israel he was implicated in planning the October 7 attack on Israel. U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced Issa’s death. The hostilities began after a Hamas assault last year that resulted in about 1,200 deaths. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu insists the fight continues until Hamas is defeated and all hostages are released; about half have been freed so far.
