Cancer patients to monitor via app, skip routine checks

Patients at Aarhus University Hospital who have completed treatment for rectal cancer will now have access to an app to monitor for recurrence symptoms, replacing the standard five routine hospital visits. The app has been introduced as part of a shift towards tailoring follow-up care to individual needs, allowing patients to respond to symptoms as they occur, rather than waiting for scheduled appointments. So far, initial experiences with the app are positive. However, the Danish Cancer Society cautions that resource-poor patients might feel overwhelmed with responsibility using the app. The new approach is in line with recommendations from the Robustness Commission to encourage self-care in the Danish healthcare system through digital tools.
