Trump’s impact on danish green stocks
Danish energy stocks Vestas and Ørsted plummeted on the Copenhagen stock exchange on Monday, following speculation about Trump’s increased chances of reclaiming the presidency. By midday, Vestas traded 5% lower and Ørsted lost 6% of its market value, due to Trump’s well-known aversion to renewable energy. Jacob Pedersen of Sydbank finds the drops surprising and attributes the market’s nervous reaction to investor sentiment. Pedersen notes that Trump’s potential policies might not significantly impact the wind industry, as half of the wind park support in the US is provided at the state level, outside presidential influence. Additionally, many ongoing projects, such as those by Ørsted, would advance well before Trump could intervene, and there aren’t many upcoming US projects in their pipeline. He expects Trump’s influence might not be felt until after 2027.
