32-year-old to become Aarhus mayor

Social Democrat Anders Winnerskjold, 32, is set to take over as Aarhus’s mayor. Group leader Anette Poulsen spoke highly of Winnerskjold’s capabilities and teamwork on the city council. He will officially replace the outgoing mayor, Jacob Bundsgaard, on November 6. Bundsgaard, stepping down after 13 years, has been the chairman and now vice-chairman of the Local Government Denmark (KL), which is in the process of selecting his successor. Winnerskjold, a member of the Aarhus City Council since 2018, received a substantial increase in personal votes in the last municipal election. He emphasizes a commitment to the social democratic vision and plans to strengthen public schools. Although scheduled for a longer paternity leave, he will now only take leave in January to focus on his mayoral responsibilities and plans to be the Social Democratic candidate in the 2023 municipal elections.
