Pusher Street’s Permanent Shutdown

Denmark’s Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard has confirmed to TV 2 Kosmopol that Pusher Street in Christiania is set to close permanently this year without giving a specific date. It marks the first time a timeline for ending the area’s hash trade has been suggested. The closure will result from collaboration with the municipal government and Christiania residents. A vision plan has been adopted to transform Pusher Street into a cultural and building festival. This decision follows conflicts between Hells Angels and the banned Loyal To Familia gang that affected Christiania. A temporary shutdown occurred on December 21, and since January, police can impose stricter penalties in areas with systematic illegal drug trade. Copenhagen Police established an enhanced penalty zone in Christiania on January 8.
