People over 60 can now opt out of resuscitation
Starting Wednesday, citizens aged 60 and above in Denmark have the option to opt out of being resuscitated in the event of cardiac arrest due to new regulations. Health and care staff are adjusting to ensure properly conducted conversations with the elderly and their relatives about this choice. The decision to not be resuscitated can be registered on sundhed.dk or via a form sent to the Health Data Agency. After a week, the choice will be visible to caregivers, health practitioners, and general practitioners. It is possible to reverse this decision, either permanently or temporarily during a specific illness. In anticipation of the regulation change, the Patient Safety Authority has held free webinars to prepare healthcare professionals. Both FOA union official Tanja Nielsen and senior consultant Anna Wilroth from Ældre Sagen stress the importance of proper training for employees and advising citizens based on individual health histories.
