Royal couple visits Germany for first state visit
King Frederik and Queen Mary are on their inaugural official visit to Germany, being welcomed by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife at Schloss Bellevue in Berlin. This ‘inauguration visit’ follows state visits to Sweden and Norway and is considered less formal. Accompanied by Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, the royal couple will tour the German parliament and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Nordic Embassies’ complex in Berlin with other Nordic royals. They will meet the Danish minority in Schleswig-Holstein and Minister President Daniel Günther on Tuesday, explore Kielerfjorden on an electric ferry, inaugurate an energy conference, visit the historical Dannevirke fortification, and take part in a ceremony for a new museum expected by 2026, funded partly by the A.P. Moller Foundation. The visit will conclude with an engagement with the Danish minority at Flensborghus, a hub for Danish association life in South Schleswig.
