Denmark to Ease Rules for Skilled Foreign Workers

The Danish government proposes new measures to simplify the working conditions for highly educated specialists from non-EU countries in Denmark. A bill under public consultation includes provisions like waiving the requirement for foreign workers to have a Danish bank account for salary payments, addressing the catch-22 where a bank account needs an address and vice versa. The government also plans to make it easier for foreigners to change residence permits without changing jobs, which currently requires terminating employment during processing. The changes aim particularly at high-earning specialists earning around DKK 480,000 annually and will only apply to certified companies following Danish labor market practices. These adjustments are intended to avoid social dumping by not extending them to lower income groups and are set to take effect from July 1, 2024.
