Govt. to add 400 study spots for foreign students
The Danish government aims to attract more international students by creating 400 new spots in English-taught professional academy and professional bachelor programs. The proposed fields of study will be within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), responding to high demand and employment from businesses. The intention is that many of the students will stay in Denmark to work. A positive list of programs meeting certain demand and employment criteria in Denmark will be created. The initiative follows a previous curtailment of English-language programs to control rising scholarship (SU) expenses for EU students. Despite the expected SU costs to increase by about 20 million kroner annually due to the new spots, Education Minister Christina Egelund asserts the overall benefits, citing examples of local companies offering job guarantees to graduates within IT and STEM.
