Government advised to cut 58 subsidy schemes

A Danish expert group suggests removing or reducing 58 of the nearly 200 business support schemes to save DKK 2.3 billion by 2030. The SVM government had already planned to cut DKK 2 billion from business support. The report recommends discontinuing funding to the Plant-Based Foods Fund and Wonderful Copenhagen, and revisiting supports related to export and investment. Rethinking tax exemption for incomes on Danish International Shipping Register ships could yield another DKK 1.1 billion in savings. Most targeted schemes are for economic improvement rather than climate targets. Business Minister Morten Bødskov will consult with parties on these recommendations. Meanwhile, Dansk Industri warns against hasty subsidy cuts, emphasizing careful consideration to preserve competitive sectors. The government aims to revamp business subsidies to favor new priorities and enhance employment by 4000 jobs.
