Agency charged with animal welfare breach

Naturstyrelsen, the Danish Nature Agency, has been indicted for breaching the Animal Welfare Act involving cattle management in Mols Bjerge, East Jutland. Announced on their website, the case pertains to a state-owned cattle herd used in the maintenance of state lands in Mols Bjerge. A veterinarian inspection in February 2021 revealed that the condition of the cattle was critically poor, with body conditions significantly below normal for the winter season. At the time, the agency had already started to feed and shelter some of the animals, yet some were so weakened they died or had to be euthanized. Peter Ilsøe, the director of Naturstyrelsen, stated that the agency takes the case very seriously.
