Parliament rushed to approve airport buyout

The Danish parliament’s Finance Committee was given just 19 hours to approve the state’s 32 billion DKK majority share acquisition in Copenhagen Airports, as reported by Altinget. The acquisition announced by the Finance Ministry would result in the state owning approximately 98% of the shares, reversing years of divestment. Members from various parties criticized the hastened decision-making process. Liberal Alliance’s Ole Birk Olesen believed more deliberation time could have been provided, whereas Christina Olumeko from the Alternative party and Dennis Flydtkjær from the Denmark Democrats also expressed dissatisfaction with the rushed process. Both the Liberal Alliance and the Alternative party voted against the purchase, with the Alternative party questioning the airport’s status as critical infrastructure during a climate crisis, and Olesen suggesting a preference for a state minority ownership.
