Media: Scenarios for Aarhus Airport closure considered

There are discussions about potential scenarios for closing Aarhus Airport. This is mentioned in a briefing to the Economy and Business Committee members in Aarhus Kommune, led by Mayor Anders Winnerskjold, reports TV 2 Østjylland and Din Avis Aarhus. An approach to the state has been made to explore possibilities for national involvement in the airport’s future operations. Closure scenarios are also being examined as negotiations with potential investor Fairchild Denmark are delayed. The mayor suggests the municipality should extend a guarantee of five million kroner to the airport. Aarhus Airport has struggled financially for years, with owner municipalities investing 200 million kroner in 2019 to attract private investment. Previous negotiations with an international investor to take a majority stake fell through. A current investor, Fairchild Denmark, demands at least 51% ownership and full control over operations.
