EU foreign chief fears war between Israel and Hezbollah
EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell warns of the growing risk of the Gaza conflict between Israel and Hamas escalating into a larger regional war involving Lebanon. Tension is rising as both Israel and Hezbollah engage in cross-border attacks. Israel has prepared for a potential offensive in Lebanon, while Hezbollah leader Nasrallah threatens that no place in Israel is safe and implicates Cyprus if its bases are used by Israel. This threat led to a stern response from Greece’s Foreign Minister, supporting Cyprus against terror threats. Germany’s Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, also expressed concern, terming any escalation a disaster for the region’s people.
