Benefit to rise for vocational training
From January 1, 2024, it is possible to start vocational training in industries with a shortage of labour and receive 110 per cent of your previous unemployment benefit rate if you are over 30 years old and are either unskilled or skilled with an outdated training, a broad majority agreed on Tuesday. The government parties, the Socialist People’s Party, the Danish Democrats, the Conservatives, the Red Greens, the Social Liberals, the Danish People’s Party and the Alternative voted in favour of the bill, the New Conservatives and the Liberal Alliance against. However, the Liberal Alliance said it had been a mistake for the party to vote against.
The scheme already exists, but only temporarily. From the beginning of the year, therefore, the scheme will be made permanent. “Experience shows that the scheme helps more people take vocational training. That is why it is good that we are making it permanent. It is clear that it matters how much money you have during your education – especially when you often have more expenses for housing and family a little later in life. This is good news,” Employment Minister Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen said.
