Denmark advocates AI in cancer screening
Denmark is set to spread cancer screening across 29 European countries using artificial intelligence (AI). The AI research center CAI-X at Odense University Hospital and University of Southern Denmark will utilize AI in a major EU grant aimed at fighting cancer. The project named EUCanScreen, launching in June, received nearly 300 million kroner to enhance screening programs for various types of cancer. It intends to extend best practices and established screening methods for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers, also supporting recommended screening for lung, prostate, and stomach cancers. Benjamin Rasmussen, CAI-X’s clinical research leader, emphasizes AI’s role in improving healthcare services amid growing challenges. The initiative also coincides with the EU’s upcoming parliamentary elections, focusing on combating cancer more effectively, as Europe accounts for 25% of global cancer cases with only 10% of the world’s population.
