Biden holds talks on Mideast

US President Joe Biden has held conference calls with America’s key Western allies to discuss the war in the Gaza Strip, the White House said. Biden spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. AFP said information about the talks would be released at a later date. Earlier Sunday, Biden spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Pope Francis. /ritzau/
