Britain

Getting inflation in Britain down to levels that the British can live with is clearly an arduous task. In September, it was calculated at 6.7 per cent year-on-year. The same was true in August, according to a statement on Wednesday from the British Office for National Statistics. However, wages are keeping up with price developments again. “A strong labour market has recently meant that wages are now back in line with inflation. It provides a breathing space for most Britons, although hardly all Britons benefit from such high wage increases,” says Kim Blindbæk, senior economist at Sydbank, in a comment. By comparison, inflation in Britain was estimated at 11.1 percent in October 2022. /ritzau/
