Britain – airspace data failure
Technical problems at the British air traffic service have meant that air traffic to and from several airports in Britain were inundated with delays and cancellations on Monday – also for Danes. On Monday evening, approximately 19-20 flights were cancelled, said press officer at Copenhagen Airport Lene Elmegaard. By afternoon, it was announced that 44 flights to and from Copenhagen could potentially be cancelled. “The planes may start to be dispatched, but you still have to keep an eye out for delays,” Elmegaard said on Monday evening. A total of 6,700 passengers could be affected. As early as Monday afternoon, the technical problem was identified, according to Sky News. It was a flaw in the system that automatically processes flight plans. The staff therefore had to enter them manually. This has been impossible to do at the same speed as the automatic systems and has meant restrictions on airspace. /ritzau/
