At the request of the German authorities, police in Portugal will begin searching a remote lake area on Tuesday in connection with the investigation into the mysterious disappearance of a little British girl Madeleine McCann in 2007. British officers will be present during the search, the BBC reports. The police do not expect that she will be found alive and the case is being treated as a murder case. Portuguese television showed clips from an area cordoned off around the man-made Lake Arade, according to AFP. It is located almost 50 kilometres from where the then three-year-old Maddie disappeared in the tourist area of Praia da Luz on the Algarve coast. It is not immediately clear what has caused police to be interested in the area, which has also previously been searched. /ritzau/
