Vestas lands first US offshore wind turbine order

Vestas will provide 54 offshore wind turbines to the Empire 1 wind park, projected to be New York City’s first grid-connected offshore wind farm, with deliveries starting in 2026. This marks Vestas’ entrance into the American market, which has faced challenges due to rising interest rates affecting companies like Ørsted. Despite potential hindrances from a future Trump administration opposing wind energy developments, the order signals ongoing momentum, with America being a promising market for Vestas. The order accounts for 810 megawatts, the company’s most substantial for the year, and includes a five-year service agreement post-installation. Laura Beane, the North American director for Vestas, celebrates collaboration with Equinor on this pivotal project, with power generation expected to start by the end of 2026.
