Mads Fuglede loses committee seats after leave
When Mads Fuglede returns from parental leave to join Danmarksdemokraterne, he will not retain his former parliamentary committee seats. According to convention, these positions typically follow the MP, but the situation differs when the MP is on leave. Currently, his substitute, Kristian Pihl Lorentzen from Venstre (Left), holds those positions and they will not be returned to Fuglede upon his re-entry into Parliament. The chairman of the Parliament, Søren Gade, clarified that Fuglede will not carry any positions into his new party since he is switching during the leave period. Consequently, Fuglede must now acquire committee seats from fellow Danmarksdemokraterne members. Despite losing coveted positions like chairman of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which would have involved attending a NATO summit in the USA, Danmarksdemokraternes group chairman Peter Skaarup remains calm. Lars Christian Lilleholt, Venstre’s group chairman, denies any suggestion of revenge, citing the practice as usual.
